Staying in control: our measures for members
At V1 Casino we regard gambling as entertainment that costs money, and we expect members to treat it that way. We set our controls against the moments at which a member needs them: before a deposit, during a session, after a loss and when stopping.
Before the first deposit
A member who decides in advance how much to spend keeps the decision away from the pressure of play.
- Decide an amount that can be lost without affecting rent, bills or savings.
- Decide the period that amount covers.
- Enter it as a deposit limit in account settings.
- Keep gambling money separate from household money.
During a session
| Signal | Our control |
|---|---|
| Losing track of time | Session reminder |
| Spending more than planned | Deposit limit and loss limit |
| A need to stop for a day or longer | Time-out |
A session reminder tells a member how long play has continued. A loss limit stops further losses in the chosen period.
After a loss
A loss is not a debt owed to the casino, and it is not recovered by playing more. These are signs that play has become a problem:
- betting more to win back what was lost;
- borrowing money to gamble;
- hiding the amount spent from family;
- feeling anxious or irritable when not playing;
- neglecting work, study or family for gambling;
- gambling to escape stress or low mood.
A member who recognises one of these signs should use a time-out, and one who recognises several should close the account.
When stopping
| Option | Effect |
|---|---|
| Time-out | Pauses the account for a chosen break |
| Closure | Ends the account on request, without a reason |
| Support request | Our team explains what remains on the account |
Closure is available at any time through account settings or at [email protected].
Independent help
Gambling Help Online offers free and confidential support on 1800 858 858 at any hour. Lifeline can be reached on 13 11 14 by anyone in distress. Gamblers Anonymous provides peer support, and a member can also speak to a doctor.
Minors
Our casino is for adults aged 18 and over. Adults should keep devices and passwords away from children, and sign out of the account on shared devices.
Our commitment
We do not pressure a member to deposit or to stay. A request to set a limit, take a break or close the account is carried out without a question about the reason.
Limits that work in AUD
A limit is stated in the currency of the account, so that it can be compared with income and bills. The table shows the form each limit takes.
| Limit | Form |
|---|---|
| Deposit limit | An amount in AUD for a chosen period |
| Loss limit | An amount in AUD for a chosen period |
| Session reminder | A time interval |
| Time-out | A length of break |
A limit can be lowered at any time. A member who wants to raise it should wait and reconsider before doing so, because a rise made during play is rarely a considered decision.
Questions a member can ask
- Is the amount I am about to deposit money I can afford to lose?
- Am I playing to enjoy the game, or to recover a loss?
- Have I played longer than I planned?
- Would I be comfortable if a family member saw my account?
- Have I borrowed or sold something to continue?
A member who answers yes to the last four should stop for the day, and a member who answers yes to more than one should speak to an independent service.
Family and friends
Gambling affects people who do not gamble. A relative who is worried about a member can call Gambling Help Online on 1800 858 858, which also supports families. A relative can encourage the member to set a limit or a time-out, but only the member can set one on the account.
Practical barriers
- Remove saved card details from the phone and the browser.
- Sign out after each session.
- Leave the lobby when tired, distressed or after drinking alcohol.
- Keep a written note of the amount deposited each week.
Our controls at a glance
| Control | Where it is set | Who sets it |
|---|---|---|
| Deposit limit | Account settings | The member |
| Loss limit | Account settings | The member |
| Session reminder | Account settings | The member |
| Time-out | Account settings | The member |
| Closure | Account settings or support | The member |
Planning a limit
- Write down monthly income and fixed costs.
- Subtract the costs and set aside savings.
- Choose a share of what remains as the most that may be lost.
- Divide it by the number of weeks and enter it as a weekly limit.
- Review the limit once a month, and lower it if play has increased.
Balance
Gambling should leave time for work, family, rest and other interests. A member whose play has begun to displace them should take a time-out and review the limits.
Reading the signs early
Problem gambling rarely begins with a large loss. It begins with small changes: a deposit slightly above the limit, a session slightly longer than planned, a second deposit after the first has gone. A member who notices such a change should act on it at once, by lowering a limit or taking a time-out, because early action costs little. We carry out every such request immediately and without comment.
